Brazil, is the place to start. Forty kilometers of beaches with

for leisure activities both day and night, with its bars,
restaurants and shops selling everything from crafts to precious
stones, and happy and carefree people who sing and dance to the
rhythms of the purest Afro-Brazilian music. The scent of dendê
palm oil fills the streets of the Pelô, and is manifested in the
delicacies of the Bahian women in traditional white dress, or
"Baianas", who sell acarajé and abará, symbols of
Bahia's unique cuisine. Despite its deep historical roots,
Salvador always has new things to offer. The Tororó Dike,
completely restored, is an amazing park for leisure and
reflection, with its luminous fountains surrounding statues of

who protect the Land of Happiness. Pituaçu Park brings together

important spawning grounds for many of the species of sea turtles
living in Brazil. The capital of Bahia is located at the mouth of
All Saints' Bay, home to more than 50 islands, many of which have
marinas and docking sites. The largest and most important island
is Itaparica, which can be reached from Salvador by ferry or high

and on to many wonderful tourist destinations; take the ferry,

via a bridge located on the side of the island opposite from
Salvador. On "the Island", as the Bahians call it,
there is a wide variety of excellent beaches and hotels, and even
an international resort. Crossing All Saints' Bay and Itaparica
heading south, a true tropical paradise awaits visitors from all
parts of the world: Morro de São Paulo. Located on Tinharé

of vast coconut groves, coves with calm waters and excellent

Amado, has breathtaking beaches of great beauty, an airport and

headquarters for deep-sea fishing championships, since one of the
best spots in the world for fishing Marlin and other species
prized by enthusiasts is located nearby, the Royal Charlotte
Bank. Not far from Ilhéus is a must see, the village of
Itacaré, a paradise for surfers and nature lovers, with its
perfect waves and pristine coastal rainforest vegetation that
grows right down to the water's edge along the area's innumerable
coves and beaches. Canavieiras and Belmonte, also nearby, besides
having beautiful beaches, are home to many species of snook that
live in the canals hidden amid the mangroves, attracting
enthusiasts from all over the world. The birthplace of Brazil,
Porto Seguro, is undoubtedly an international tourist destination
par excellence, with its sophisticated beaches, a contagiously
up-beat ambiance both day and night and an excellent variety of
high quality options for accommodations and dining. Located near
the southernmost part of the state, the Abrolhos archipelago is
one of the greatest ecological sanctuaries in South America,
providing a haven for seabirds migrating from the most diverse
regions of the planet, for dolphins, rare fish and coral species,
and a stage for the awe-inspiring spectacle of the mating of
humpBack whales, from August to November. A paradise for those
who appreciate the beauty of the underwater world, visitation is
permitted only at certain times of the year, and, even during
those periods, only for recreational diving. And Bahia has even
more to offer. The Chapada Diamantina mountain range is the
guardian of unforgettable surprises for visitors who are
awestruck by the rock formations, the incredible valleys
stretching as far as the eye can see, the innumerable rivers,
waterfalls, lakes, grottoes and caves where expert divers have
only now begun to fathom the region's uncharted depths. The
mountain climate is propitious for the growth of rare species of
orchids and bromeliads, adding yet another wonder to this land of
incomparable beauty.
